Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Venice & transfer to Udine
Arrive at Venice Airport, where your journey begins with the collection of your rental car, giving you the freedom to explore at your own pace. Leaving behind the lagoon, you’ll head toward Friuli Venezia Giulia, a region still largely undiscovered, where vineyards, rolling plains, and Alpine influences create a unique atmosphere.
Your destination today is Udine, an elegant and relaxed town known for its Venetian-style squares and refined charm. Often overlooked, Udine reveals itself slowly through its arcaded streets, historic palaces, and lively piazzas.
After check-in, enjoy a gentle first exploration: wander through Piazza Libertà, considered one of the most beautiful Venetian-style squares on the mainland, and soak in the peaceful rhythm of local life. A relaxed dinner in town is the perfect way to begin your Italian escape.
Overnight in Udine.
Day 2 – Discovering Udine & Friulian flavors
This morning is dedicated to discovering Udine, a city that blends elegance and authenticity, far from the crowds. Its historic center is compact yet rich, offering a perfect introduction to the cultural soul of Friuli.
Stroll up to the Castello di Udine, perched on a hill overlooking the town, for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and, on clear days, even the distant Alps. Explore charming streets lined with boutiques and cafés, where locals gather for their daily rituals.
At lunchtime, enjoy a traditional meal in a local osteria, an authentic highlight of the day. Here, you’ll taste regional specialties, where Italian flavors meet Central European influences. The afternoon is yours to continue exploring at leisure or simply relax and embrace the slower pace of this elegant town.
Overnight in Udine.
Day 3 – Cividale del Friuli & arrival in Trieste
Today you’ll discover Cividale del Friuli, a small yet extraordinary town and UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its Lombard history and timeless atmosphere. Nestled along the Natisone River, it feels like stepping into a different era.
Wander through its medieval streets, admire the iconic Devil’s Bridge, and visit historic landmarks that reflect centuries of cultural crossroads. Cividale is intimate, poetic, and deeply authentic—a true hidden gem.
In the afternoon, continue your journey toward Trieste, a fascinating port city where Italian elegance meets Austro-Hungarian heritage. As you arrive, the atmosphere shifts: grand boulevards, literary cafés, and a cosmopolitan spirit welcome you. Take your first evening to stroll along the seafront and absorb the city’s unique charm.
Overnight in Trieste.
Day 4 – Trieste guided tour & Miramare Castle
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Trieste, perhaps starting your day in one of its historic cafés, once frequented by writers and intellectuals. The city is known for its refined, slightly nostalgic atmosphere, where sea and culture intertwine.
In the afternoon, meet your guide for a private guided tour of Trieste, discovering its most iconic landmarks. Explore the breathtaking Piazza Unità d’Italia, the largest sea-facing square in Europe, surrounded by elegant historic buildings and opening dramatically onto the Adriatic.
Later, a private transfer will take you to the enchanting Miramare Castle, perched above the sea. This fairytale residence, once home to Archduke Maximilian and associated with Empress Sissi, is surrounded by lush gardens and offers spectacular coastal views. After your visit, return comfortably to your hotel by transfer.
Overnight in Trieste.
Day 5 – Aquileia, cradle of ancient history
Today’s excursion takes you to Aquileia, one of the most important archaeological sites in Italy and a UNESCO-listed treasure. Once a major Roman city, Aquileia played a crucial role in the spread of early Christianity across Europe.
The highlight of your visit is the stunning Basilica of Aquileia, renowned for its extraordinary mosaic floors—among the largest and best-preserved in the Western world. Walking here feels like stepping back into antiquity, surrounded by layers of history and spirituality.
Take time to explore the archaeological area and absorb the peaceful, almost timeless atmosphere of this historic site. In the afternoon, return to Trieste, where you can enjoy a relaxed evening by the sea or dine in one of the city’s elegant restaurants.
Overnight in Trieste.
Day 6 – Palmanova, the perfect Renaissance city
Today you’ll visit Palmanova, a unique architectural masterpiece and one of Italy’s most extraordinary hidden gems. Built as a star-shaped fortress city during the Renaissance, Palmanova is a rare example of perfect urban planning.
As you enter through one of its monumental gates, you’ll immediately notice the geometric harmony of the city. At its center lies a vast hexagonal piazza, from which streets radiate symmetrically. Walking here feels both surreal and fascinating.
Spend time exploring its walls, bastions, and quiet streets, imagining its strategic importance in past centuries. In the afternoon, return to Trieste and enjoy your time at leisure—perhaps revisiting your favorite corners or discovering new ones.
Overnight in Trieste.
Day 7 – Grado, the Island of the Sun
Today is dedicated to relaxation by the sea in Grado, a charming coastal town known as the “Island of the Sun”. Famous for its sandy beaches and laid-back atmosphere, Grado offers a completely different side of the region.
Stroll through its picturesque old town, where narrow streets open onto lively squares and fishing traditions are still alive. Then, unwind on the beach, enjoying the gentle Adriatic breeze and the warmth of the sun.
Whether you choose to swim, relax, or enjoy fresh seafood by the waterfront, this day is all about slowing down and savoring the moment. In the late afternoon, return to Trieste for your final evening, perhaps celebrating your journey with a memorable dinner.
