The road winds through rolling hills, fragrant Mediterranean landscapes, and glimpses of sparkling coastline, giving your first taste of Sardinia’s diverse natural beauty. Along the way, the gentle rhythm of the countryside sets the stage for the experiences ahead.
Upon arrival in Orosei, you’ll check in at your hotel, a comfortable base nestled near the coast. Take some time to unwind from your flight, explore the charming streets, and perhaps enjoy a short stroll along the nearby beaches. The town’s relaxed atmosphere, dotted with local cafes and artisan shops, offers an inviting introduction to Sardinian life.
As evening falls, savor a quiet dinner at a local trattoria, sampling fresh seafood and regional specialties. The tranquil ambiance and the scent of the sea create a perfect welcome to your journey, preparing you for the adventures that lie ahead along the coast and into the heart of Sardinia.
Day 2: Orosei Coast & Gommone Excursion
Today begins with a guided gommone (RIB) excursion along the breathtaking Orosei coast, renowned for its turquoise waters, hidden coves, and dramatic cliffs. As your boat glides along the coastline, take in the panorama of pristine beaches only accessible by sea. This is the perfect opportunity for photography, relaxation, and connecting with the raw beauty of Sardinia.
Midway through your journey, you’ll enjoy a delightful aperitif on board, accompanied by light snacks and local refreshments. Snorkeling equipment is provided, allowing you to explore the underwater world of the Mediterranean, from colorful fish to intriguing rock formations. The experience feels private and immersive, offering both adventure and serenity.
Return to Orosei for an overnight stay, where the evening can be spent wandering the charming historic center or enjoying a seaside dinner. The gentle lull of the waves at night serves as a soothing backdrop, marking the perfect end to an active and scenic day.
Day 3: Arzana & Shepherd Experience
Today, you leave the coast and journey inland toward Arzana, a picturesque village nestled in the Sardinian mountains. Here, you will meet a local shepherd and step into the timeless rhythms of rural life. Witness firsthand traditional pastoral practices, from tending sheep to learning about the production of Pecorino cheese and other artisanal delights.
A highlight of the day is lunch on the farm, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients prepared in authentic Sardinian style. Each dish tells the story of the land and the shepherds who nurture it, providing a truly immersive culinary experience. The connection to the land and its produce gives a deeper appreciation for Sardinia’s rich heritage.
At the end of the day, you’ll continue to Arbatax for your overnight stay. Along the way, the scenery transforms from mountainous landscapes to rugged coastline, offering glimpses of pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Enjoy a quiet evening in your hotel, reflecting on the day’s unique blend of culture, gastronomy, and nature.
Day 4: Sailing Adventure in the Gulf of Orosei
Wake up in Arbatax for a sailing adventure on a catamaran in the spectacular Gulf of Orosei. The turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs, and secluded coves make this one of Sardinia’s most picturesque coastal experiences. Relax on deck, take in the views, or feel the wind as your catamaran glides over the waves.
Throughout the day, food and beverages are included, allowing you to savor fresh local flavors while surrounded by the stunning seascape. Snorkeling or swimming stops provide moments of intimacy with the clear waters, where you can discover hidden marine life. The rhythm of the sailing experience offers both adventure and tranquility.
Return to Arbatax for the evening. As the sun sets over the sea, enjoy a quiet dinner at a local restaurant or simply unwind at your hotel. Today is a perfect blend of exhilaration, relaxation, and indulgence, capturing the essence of Sardinia’s maritime charm.
Day 5: Bosa & Free Exploration
Travel north along the coast to the colorful town of Bosa, renowned for its vibrant pastel-colored houses lining the river Temo. The rest of the day is free, giving you the freedom to explore at your own pace. Stroll through the narrow streets, admire the local artisan shops, or simply relax by the riverfront cafes.
Bosa is rich in history and charm, from the Malaspina Castle perched above the town to the traditional craft of coral jewelry making. Enjoy wandering through its lively markets and quaint streets, absorbing the colorful atmosphere that makes Bosa such a unique Sardinian gem.
As evening approaches, settle in at your hotel for your overnight stay. Take in the peaceful ambiance and perhaps enjoy a quiet dinner in one of the town’s traditional restaurants, tasting local specialties like fresh seafood and sweet Malvasia wine.
Day 6: Castello Malaspina & Alghero Day Trip
Start the day with a visit to Castello Malaspina (Castello di Serravalle), an imposing medieval fortress overlooking the river Temo. Explore its historic towers, walls, and panoramic viewpoints, which offer sweeping vistas of the surrounding countryside and the coastline beyond.
Next, head west to Alghero, a city famed for its Catalan heritage and charming old town. Wander the cobblestone streets, admire the Gothic architecture, and perhaps enjoy a leisurely coffee or gelato in the historic squares. The city’s rich history and vibrant atmosphere make it a fascinating cultural excursion.
Return to Bosa in the evening for your overnight stay. Reflect on the day’s journey through Sardinia’s medieval and maritime history, enjoying dinner at your hotel or a nearby restaurant while watching the sunset over the town.
Day 7: Stintino & La Pelosa Beach
Travel north to Stintino, a charming fishing village, for a full day of relaxation and sun at the world-famous La Pelosa Beach. The powdery white sand, crystal-clear shallow waters, and dramatic backdrop of Asinara Island create one of Sardinia’s most iconic beach experiences.
Spend the day swimming, sunbathing, or strolling along the shoreline. Optional activities such as paddleboarding or snorkeling allow you to explore the vibrant marine environment, while the pristine natural beauty offers plenty of opportunities for photography and quiet reflection.
Overnight near Porto Torres, where you can enjoy a relaxed evening in a cozy seaside hotel. Savor a casual dinner featuring freshly caught seafood, accompanied by a glass of local Vermentino wine, and let the sounds of the waves close another memorable day.
Day 8: Sardinian Sweets & Porto Torres
Begin the day in Porto Torres with a hands-on Sardinian sweets cooking class. Learn how to make traditional treats such as pardulas, sebadas, and other regional delicacies under the guidance of a local chef. The class is both educational and delicious, providing insight into Sardinian culinary traditions.
After your sweet experience, enjoy some free time to explore Porto Torres. Walk along the harbor, visit historic sites, or browse local shops for souvenirs. The town’s mix of maritime culture, history, and relaxed atmosphere makes it a charming stop before the final leg of your journey.
Return to your hotel for your overnight stay. Reflect on the flavors and experiences of Sardinia, enjoying a quiet evening in town and perhaps sampling one last local dish before departure.
Day 9: Departure from Olbia
On your final day, drive back to Olbia Airport, taking in the last views of Sardinia’s stunning landscapes along the way. Return your rental car and check in for your flight, carrying memories of pristine beaches, authentic gastronomy, and cultural immersion.
